The Supposed Object

The Supposed Object, 2008

thread, pins, wall
In these monumental doodles, familiar images from the Apollo moon missions morph into new forms.  Part-drawing, part-sculpture, part-installation, these textiles rely on a network of pins and surrounding architecture for structure.  Intricate, lacey, and irregular, the webs crawl over the walls semi-revealing partial objects.  Wobbly and imperfect, they sag in gravity.   Loose threads dangle.  The work threatens to unravel where the network thins.  Merging with the surrounding space, it is unclear where the work begins or ends.  Looking from a distance, the cast shadows create a vertiginous visceral sensation.  The Supposed Object is literally difficult to see.
